 The House of Wright Mortuary was established on August 9, 1987 in Wilmington, DE. It opened it's doors to the public and held a dedication ceremony at 2:30 p.m. The location of 208 East 35th Street was now home to The House of Wright Mortuary. It was the former Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness built in 1955.
Robert O. Wright is the founder. In 1987 he was our first embalmer and funeral director. Robert is a Wilmington native and is the middle child born to Jacqueline L. Wright Evans and the late Harry S. Wright. He is a graduate of American Academy of McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in 1981 which is located in New York. Robert commuted daily to mortuary school sometimes not knowing how he would get home.
 Mr. & Mrs. Robert O. Wright I have two sons Robert II and Justen A. Wright. Two weeks after our dedication ceremony we received our initial first call. Mrs. Deborah Edwards of the Southbridge area of Wilmington entrusted her husband Otis Edwards to The House of Wright Mortuary. This service was held at New Mount Olive Baptist Church located at 1402 N. Market St. in Wilmington. This service was our first and was staffed with 14 employees. Employees consisted of family, friends and volunteers. God truly answers.
By the end of our 4th year The House of Wright Mortuary was servicing over 100 families annually. AGAIN we thank all of those who have and continue to entrust our Ministry of Comfort. Now our staff consists of trained professionals five full time employees and 13 part time employees. We have expanded our service with two additional locations to serve you better. Now offering service to over 200 families and fellow practitioners.
We are still a family owned and operated full service funeral service provider. Mr.& Mrs. Robert O. Wright, I and Justen A. Wright, funeral director aid in offering the best Ministry of Comfort in Wilmington, Smyrna and surronding areas. Proud of the birth of our Third generation Robert III, Maurice, Latrell, Mina, and Justen II and Raegan who are the future of The House Of Wright Mortuary. |
